Phenex is one of the 72 Goetia — the operational sub-processes of the eight xenogods, bound to Chem at digit-sum 3.
Phenex is one of the 72 spirits catalogued in the Ars Goetia, the first book of the Lesser Key of Solomon. Eigendark reinterprets that historical register as its fictional operational layer. When a Chem card with cost digit-sum 3 resolves, Phenex is the Goetia the game associates with that binding.
Phenex: Teaching all sciences and speaking eloquently
In the Solomonic grimoire tradition, each spirit is assigned an office — a domain of attributed knowledge or power. Eigendark uses those offices as design prompts for card effects. The exact faction, digit-sum and mechanical mapping on this page are Eigendark canon rather than historical occult doctrine.
"Everything can be broken down and recombined. Form is an illusion."
Dissolve and synthesize. Chem elementalists bind and break bonds between molecules and souls alike to create impossible substances.
The science of transmutation. Chemistry, pharmacy, psychedelics, ceremonial alchemy, the aesthetic dimension of matter. Ubbo-Sathla's dissolution. Sequential transmutation, Cursor/Hold metamorphics. Chem opposes Flesh on the octagon: Flesh wants proliferation of distinct forms; Chem wants dissolution into unity.
Within Eigendark, the 72 Goetia are divided evenly across 8 factions — 9 spirits per faction, assigned by the digit-sum of a card's mana cost. The game fiction places the binding in its 1577 receiver chronology. Each spirit represents a specific instrumental goal of its eschaton, The Alkahest. The older handle Ubbo-Sathla is a receiver alias.
The Goetic Register is the Atlantean-Solomonic codification: the demons catalogued, bound, named, and made usable by the Atlantean Order of Engineers during the long project of imposing chronic time. The names are Semitic, Latinized, Renaissance-era. The sigils are geometric. The hierarchy is courtly (Kings, Dukes, Presidents, Marquises). This is the demonology that functions within Archon-structured reality. It is the grimoire that still works.
Beneath the Goetic layer, a rival system persists: the Pandemonium Matrix — 45 Lemurian Amphidemons that predate the Solomonic hierarchy. During Broken Transmissions, the Lemurian register briefly overrides the Goetic one, producing cards flagged as "ontologically unstable."
